It’s 30 shoes, no sorry, shows! To celebrate, I thought we should do something special. So, also in honour of the fact we are doing a pair of gigs together, I’ve created a band battle, where we pit man against woman. In this instance we mean 50ft Woman and er .. The Scratch. We are going to find out just how much each band knows about each other, in a sort of love-in chaotic Mr and Mrs (that old TV classic) mixed with Blockbusters, as there is only one member of 50ft (technically I have to remain impartial) and 2 of The Scratch. If it all goes horribly wrong, we will no doubt have lots of silliness, peppered with a playlist based on tonight’s theme.

We’re all going on a summer holiday ... well not yet perhaps, but The Scratch have inspired this week’s theme, with their new album Great Adventure.
So this week’s playlist is all based around journeys and adventures of all types. From rock ‘n’ roll, to horizons to girls going to Spain, it’s all there. We also discuss our Great Adventures, real or imagined, and we recreate Wacky Races with F1. The Other JT and Mr Interruption discover they went to school together, the Other JT then squeals like a girl when he finds out we visited some caves, and Super Scratch emailed in to tell us his Great Adventure with his nether regions.

The world, it seems, is full of problems. From the people who roll up on Jeremy Kyle’s show wanting to know ‘whoda favver’ to proper ‘is the EU about to go bankrupt?’ serious stuff, it’s all there. We feel guilty for being happy, guilty for not being the shape of someone who has been photoshopped for 4 hours, guilty about our carbon footprint, about drinking, about not drinking ... when is it going to end? Of course, this all sounds like a very serious show blog. The fact that I have ‘the other JT’ as guest producer (him from the insane Crawling Home show’) and also the now ubiquitous Mr Interruption, it will no doubt quickly descend into silliness. After all, as they say, laughter is the best medicine! As always, songs loosely connected in some way to ‘problems’ will pepper our ramblings with a great independent soundtrack.

Those of you who follow me on Twitter and Facebook will know how pedantic I am about certain failures in grammar and spelling. I don’t profess to be perfect, but I do think there are some basic rules that nowadays are just overlooked. Tonight’s show is all about grocers’ apostrophes, your and you’re, typos and spelling, with stories sent in from listeners. The playlist consists of bands and songs with exceptions to the rule, interesting words, semantics and missing apostrophes.

And so, it’s a new year and everyone’s path is paved with good intentions. New Year’s Resolutions; those little things we think up in December to make life a little better next year, or so we think. But do they really change our lives?
Rather than New year ReSolutions, I want new Year ReVolutions. REALLY changing something in life. Things like, changing Tuesday to Shoesday, banning coffee from EVER touching sugar, having PROPER music history lessons in school so kids know who Bach AND The Rolling Stones are, making unlawful use of apostrophes a punishable offence (possibly by rotten vegetable throwing in stocks, in homage to the Grocers’ Apostrophe name) and banning headphone wearing from people on pushbikes and crossing the road (which isn’t perhaps as silly as that sounds).
Anyway, your playlist tonight is peppered with gems that reflect the New Year, with its time of change, abstention, overdoing it and general New Year type stuff, including a leaked track, as yet unheard, from the forthcoming Limozine album. I have been given special permission to play it and what’s more, being called Girls Don’t, it even fits in with the show theme!
