19.01.11 Minki's Magic Moments - 'New Year Revolution'

And so, it’s a new year and everyone’s path is paved with good intentions. New Year’s Resolutions; those little things we think up in December to make life a little better next year, or so we think. But do they really change our lives?

Rather than New year ReSolutions, I want new Year ReVolutions. REALLY changing something in life. Things like, changing Tuesday to Shoesday, banning coffee from EVER touching sugar, having PROPER music history lessons in school so kids know who Bach AND The Rolling Stones are, making unlawful use of apostrophes a punishable offence (possibly by rotten vegetable throwing in stocks, in homage to the Grocers’ Apostrophe name) and banning headphone wearing from people on pushbikes and crossing the road (which isn’t perhaps as silly as that sounds).

Anyway, your playlist tonight is peppered with gems that reflect the New Year, with its time of change, abstention, overdoing it and general New Year type stuff, including a leaked track, as yet unheard, from the forthcoming Limozine album. I have been given special permission to play it and what’s more, being called Girls Don’t, it even fits in with the show theme!

22.12.11 Minki's Magic Moments - "Dirty Dozen"

There are 12 days of Christmas. However, I always think that really, we have 12 days before as well as the 12 days after. It’s not that I want 24 presents, you understand, but you can’t help feeling more festive in those 2 weeks before Christmas, even if you are a bit Bah Humbug. And so, tonight, for your delectation we have 12 favourites from 2011 and 12 new tracks that will be our future favourites. (I was going to do an ‘out with the old, in with the new theme, but a. it didn’t sound right, as it’s not really OUT with the old, and b. Alex from The Forum did something similar a couple of weeks ago and I shan’t be accused of copying!) Some of these will, of course be stuffed handily into our regular brackets of ‘Double Whammy’ and ‘Snap’, but there will also, quite possibly be some listeners’ requests, just to upset the theme and my themic OCD.

Tonight’s playlist is all about the run up to Christmas. That inevitable moment when you find that your shopping bags are more full of things for you, than for the people you set out to buy for. I have countenanced that this year by shopping online, but even then, it’s still not easy. Justifying a lunch time browsing on ASOS when you are meant to be shopping for a small boy is not that easy!

Still, no need to panic. Right at this minute, why don’t you pull up the laptop, and listen to the show while you browse your favourite shopping website, whether it be for you or someone else. 24.11.11 Minki's Magic Moments

Today it’s Thanksgiving in the US of A. Ah yes, I hear you cry, but we are not IN the USA (well some of you might be, but by this time you will be starting to stuff the turkey). BUT, BUT, this will be the first ever year that I am having a Thanksgiving dinner, this very weekend. It’s also a holiday that I wish we WOULD adopt here in the UK. Why? Because Americans apparently focus so much on Thanksgiving that Christmas doesn’t even feature until afterwards, something I am quite passionate about. Here in the UK we are starting WAY too early.

And so, tonight’s playlist is dedicated not only to Thanksgiving (OK, some of the links are rather tenuous) but also the second half of the show will be all about Black Friday, and the tracks or bands will involve the word Black!

10.11.11 Minki's Magic Moments - '20 Greatest Hits'

It’s not what you think; already a yearly retrospective rounding up all those tracks I’ve been playing. Oh no, well, maybe half is. I received a new track from Limozine entitled Twenty Greatest Hits and I have been dying to play it. Due to circumstances, i haven’t been able to … until now! And so, in honour of this occasion, the show’s theme is, yes, 20 Greatest Hits. Also, appropriately and spookily, this is also the 20th show! Celebrations all round.

To mix it up a bit, I have handpicked 10 of my all time favourites, and 10 new tracks that could well be this show’s future greatest hits, plus some more goodies such as new feature Double Whammy and old favourite Missing in Action. Of course, this also means that we need more time, and so I’ve had permission to talk a bit longer than normal; 2 hours in fact! Whether I can manage this after being to used to hourly show chunks, is another matter, but let’s see. I’m also hoping my stinking cold won’t impair the show. If all else fails we will just play more music :)
